It is my hope and prayer that every Scripture that goes out will accomplish God's purpose in someone's heart as promised in Isaiah 55 (below). Every piece of art begins in prayer. I usually paint to some inspirational music - such as from Keith Green or Michael Card or the Neil Morse band or worship music.
Being asthmatic as a child, I spent much of my time drawing instead of playing sport. As the years progressed my focus turned from drawing objects to portraits.
In the late 1980's although I was a convinced atheist, God graciously introduced me to a friend who allowed me to express my cynicism and doubt about 'God'. As with the Scripture in 1 Timothy 3:15 he was well-prepared to give a reason for the hope that he had, with gentleness and respect. Over the course of 3 months, his Christian worldview helped make sense of many areas for which I had found no meaningful explanation- including the beginning of time and physical space, the origin of the laws of logic, the laws of nature, the origin of all the power of the universe, the origin and complexity of life, the origin of the information in the DNA code as well as its incredible specificity and coding of cellular machinery.
By comparison, atheism/agnosticism offered no meaningful explanation of any of these, most especially how the universe was supposed to have come from absolute nothingness with its own language by which we can understand it, i.e. mathematics. Likewise it offered no explanation for the incredible beauty all around - whether looking at the beauty of a mathematical equation of the universe or the beauty of a sunset or a flower or a smile. Also there was no meaningful explanation of how and why we can be so incredibly creative and exercise complex abstract thinking, or invent things, make beautiful music and art, laugh with humour and engage in the search for meaning and purpose in life. Animals do no such thing.
The atheism/agnosticism I once held dear dissolved under objective scrutiny and the weight of evidence for there being a creator God was beyond reasonable doubt. I had also tried to belittle Jesus and the Bible. However as I tried to disprove the Bible and started to read the 'words in red' I recognised how the world would be a much better place if we all lived according to the red ink (the version I was reading had the words of Jesus in red). I became a follower of Jesus ... who is The Way, The Truth and The Life.
During the early 1990's whilst at Capernwray Bible school, a fellow artist, Anna Behnam. displayed some beautiful art designs embedded with Scripture verses for encouragement and these became the inspiration for BibleArt.
After studying apologetics I joined FEBA Missionary Society for several years followed by Benefact Trust.
God has used Christian bookstores in my life in significant ways, including finding a church, getting baptised & married and resources for encouragement and knowledge as well as discovering music and helping me when I doubted.
